YOUR KITCHEN
- Always wash your hands with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds before, during, and after handling food.
- Keep pets away from food preparation surfaces.
- Clean and disinfect the kitchen counter and other surfaces touched before, during, and after preparing food.
- Wash salads, fruits and vegetables thoroughly in clean water to remove all traces of soil, insects or pesticides.
- Avoid “cross-contamination” of foods by using separate chopping boards for meats and vegetables.
- Only defrost food in the fridge or microwave- not the counter in order to prevent bacterial growth.
- Eat cooked food immediately or cool and refrigerate it within 1-2 hours. Never reheat food more than once.
- Keep your refrigerator at or below 37°F. This will help slow down the growth of germs in your chilled food.
- Change hand towels or sponges regularly and never use the same rag you wash dishes with to wipe up a spill on the floor.
- Run all chopping boards, knives and utensils through the dishwasher when you are done.
- Take out the trash each evening and regularly clean and disinfect the trash containers.
YOUR BATHROOM
- Replace your toothbrush regularly to avoid bacteria growth.
- Wash your hands thoroughly after using the toilet and after cleaning the bathroom.
- Frequently clean and disinfect those surfaces you often touch (toilet handle, toilet seat, faucets, door handles, counters, light switches, mirrors, showers, and tubs).
- Close the toilet lid before flushing. Otherwise, germs can spray into the air and spread.
- Launder and replace towels frequently.
- Keep your bathroom clean and well ventilated to prevent the growth of molds. Shower with the window slightly open or use an exhaust fan. The less damp stale air, the less chance bacteria will multiply.
- Rinse baths, sinks and showers after each use and clean them regularly to remove all the lime scale and soap scum that can harbor germs.
- Shake the shower curtain after each use and spread it open so moisture can evaporate. Clean shower curtains with a suitable disinfectant or launder them according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Germs can grow in showerheads. If you haven't used yours for a while, let it run on full power on a hot setting for a minute or two to flush any germs away before using.
- Keep your bathroom floor hygienically clean, disinfected and smelling fresh by cleaning at least once a week.
